Bukit Briwang

Bukit Briwang @Batu 5, Lawas

(200 m/  656 ft)

 27 th March 2018

arived @Lawas, Sarawak with a friend who has job to do..... during tea session @SK Pusat met teacher aliff from Kelantan who alreadi teaching there for more than 8 years.... asked him about hiking spots in the area..... he then introduced teacher shafri @SK Batu 5, a hiker who also organized hiking program as far as mountain Murud... (for those interested to request packages to Murud or anywhere hiking in Sarawak could contact through his facebook: (shafri salleh).... he revealed that there's a hill behind his school where one could see sunset in Brunei bay.... due to time constraint... we plan a quick hike @5:00 p.m. this evening....

so, later... arrived @SK Batu 5 with teacher wilson who works @Lawas Education Department.... shafri also invited his colleague teacher azhar to come along... he cautioned us however the trail seldomli used by the villagers... so need to chop down shrubs as well as fallen logs.... each of us carried torchlight (thanx to wilson who kindli let me use his headlamp) n shafri brought his parang to clear thorni bushes upward...

started climbing hill behind the school... shafri then started clearing wild plants for us to pass... then came the steep slope... our movement getting slower as we need to push bodi up by grabbing twigs as well as tree branches... the soil also veri slipperi.... after almost 20 minutes scaling the cliff...reached to a ridge...

started going down when the night came... the trail getting dark n murki... so need to use lamp... shafri retraced trail using view ranger phone apps while the rest of us followed behind... quite thorn bites we earned during descending....her! her! took us double time to reach starting point.... but the view, flora & fauna all the way up n down more than worth it.....
